CD Single #2: "Heart"

It took nearly a month to just decide which drum SFX to use!! But all in all, this is the product of Dai Nagao's diligent, careful work.

We changed the music source again and again and we invited a drummer to play for us, but it still didn't work out. Thus, we had to change the music source altogether. I remember one night in front of the avex building, we stood there and we argued (for 3 hours) for the chance to perform on the streets of Shibuya. We didn't care if we were half done recording in the studio...when it was 10 PM, we would still rush to Shibuya. And we kept going back because our audience grew more each time -- we had a lot of support. But alas, the music charts didn't support us.

These lyrics were also written by Naoto Suzuki [1], and I think they were quite unique. The PV was shot in autumn, at the West Lake of Mount Fuji [2]. It took me 5 hours to get there from Tokyo and I really wanted to leave halfway before I got there. When we were shooting by the lakeside, there was a family barbequing, and quite a few times the smoke from the barbeque floated by the camera. So we had to re-do the video again and again. And then, there was a golden retriever who kept walking around...Under these circumstances, I can't believe Van had a lonely expression on her face. [3]

In the PV, Van gets wrapped with a red scarf...and to me, this is still the best scene. When we were on break (from shooting the PV), Ryo was obsessed with exploring the home our staff borrowed for the PV shoot. As for Dai, he slept whenever he had time. Everyone was revealing a sense of self.

Song Notes
[1] Dai Nagao & Naoto Suzuki used to work together a lot. They did a lot of Ayumi Hamasaki's songs, including "TO BE", "Fly high", and "End roll". You can learn more about their collaboration -- and all the other songs Dai Nagao composed/wrote on his site.

[2] Mount Fuji is surrounded by five lakes (they've collectively called "Fuji-go-ko". [It's usually written as "Fujigoko".]) One of the lakes is called "Saiko" ("Sai" means "west"; "ko" is "a body of water", such as a lake).

[3] Basically, a cute dog (and the smell of barbeque) should make people happy. But not Van, for some reason...
