Song Writers (Lyricists)

All Lyricists
The following people wrote lyrics for Do As Infinity:
  1. Tomiko Van (伴都  美子) - she's the lead vocalist of the band, and the main lyricist. Her lyrics range from playful ("BE FREE") to bitter ("Sariyuku Yuube") to reflective ("We are."), and her voice conveys these feelings quite well. She's truly a storyteller and good at her craft. =)
  2. Ryo Owatari (大渡  亮) - truly a "Jack-of-All-Trades", Ryo plays guitar, sings backup vocals, composes music AND writes lyrics for the band! (^_^) His lyrics also cover a wide range, sometimes abstract and silly ("under the sun", "Good for you"), and sometimes powerful and serious ("Tooku Made", "I can't be myself").
  3. Naoto Suzuki (鈴木  直人) - he might be 3rd on this list, but he's actually the one who got Do As Infinity started! He wrote the lyrics to their first 3 singles...and he's also their Executive Producer. Without him, Do As Infinity truly wouldn't be where they are now.

As a sidenote, Mr. Suzuki also composes music and has worked with Dai Nagao for other artists, including Ayumi Hamasaki. (^^) You can learn more by visiting Dai's website.

  4. AKI.shibuya (渋谷  亜希) - not much is known about her, but Ogawa (a member of DAIForum) said that AKI.shibuya is "an avex actress". That confused me a little, because I didn't know avex had actresses; I thought they just created music. So I did some more research, and stumbled onto her official profile page. Sure enough, she IS an actress!!! She's even been on TV dramas!!! ^^

Aside from her acting talent and beauty (she's really pretty!! There's a pic on her profile page!!), one of the most interesting things about Aki is that she's very good with English. She wrote 2 of their English songs ("SUMMER DAYS" and "Break of Dawn"), and she supposedly helped Van with her English pronunciation!!

  5. Jun Harada (原田  淳) - for the most part, Mr. Harada is a very private man. Not too much is known about him, but we do know that he's the band's A&R, which (I believe) means that he's their "coach". He helps them with their music and lyrics. And he probably helps them correspond with the media, as well as important, hard-to-reach people at avex. (Last I checked, he was in charge of avex's Press Relations [PR] department).

Anyway...Jun Harada, along with Kayoko Shinchi (and "Saiko Kawamura") REALLY seem to be the "philosophers" of the Do As Infinity. The two of them only wrote 18 songs before the band broke up, but those songs are among the most powerful, haunting, moving pieces in Do As Infinity's history. Jun has a way with expressing deep thoughts with the simplest, prettiest words. The man's truly got skills. ;)

  6. Kayoko Shinchi (新地  カヨコ) - she's also a very secretive and private person. But thanks to Mr. Harada's comments/liner notes from "Do The A-Side", I know that she's actually a full-time beautician who sometimes wrote lyrics for the band. (No doubt, she has connections at avex; they wouldn't let just any beautician write lyrics, hehe. xD)

Mr. Harada calls her a "genius" when it comes to writing lyrics, so you know she's good. (^_^) Not only that, but she sang the demos for a lot of Do as Infinity songs. She's definitely a very important person to the group!

  7. Saiko Kawamura (川村  サイコ) - this is a pen name/entity that Jun Harada and Kayoko Shinchi share. (^^) Sometimes Kayoko and Jun work together, and sometimes they work separately...but either way, Saiko is quite an accomplished lyricist. Many of Saiko's lyrics deal with anti-war themes, and human emotion (so I'm quite sure Jun and Kayoko love Ryo, since several of his lyrics deal with the same thing. =)

Aside from Do As Infinity, Saiko has also written songs for the anime series Full Metal Alchemist, and J-Pop artists Nami Tamaki and Youko Ishida. In 2010, this pen name was changed to "Psycho" Kawamura.

  8. Other lyricists who've worked with Do As Infinity include:

  9. Kano Inoue (井上   カノ)
  10. Jun'ya Urushino (漆野  淳哉)
  11. ZENTA
  12. Hiroaki Hayama (葉山 拓亮)
  13. Kanata Alexis Okajima - she writes English lyrics, and the Japanese "version" of those lyrics. ^^
  14. Kyasu Morizuki
  15. Kenn Kato
  16. Kazunori Watanabe
  17. Masanori Ouchi
  18. Hayato Kimura - co-wrote "ARIADONE (Ariadne) no Ito" with Do As Infinity. I'm guessing "Do As Infinity" means both Ryo AND Van helped him write the song.
  19. Osamu Sasaki
  20. Hayato Kimura
  21. Yusuke Toriumi
  22. Do As Infinity & Yoshihisa Tokuda
