They say that there used to be dragons
In the land where the north wind blows;
They were strong dragons
That had not yet flown.
The king was good to his subjects,
And they gave him everything.
Just the presence of the dragons
Meant that happiness reigned for a long time,
So much so that if somebody paid a visit,
They could never go home.
Feeling the north wind on their backs,
They finally took flight,
But they just rose straight up
And then fell again.
The castle went down in flames; [2]
News travelled through the land.
Nobody knew
That in truth there was sadness right by their side --
People came to pay their condolences,
Carrying bunches of flowers, hiding their swords.
Winter is long...
Spring is far away...
When the north wind dies down,
And the sound of the snow melting can be heard,
In a hundred years, that ideal and even this dream
Will be a fairy tale.
