CD Singles

Please choose a CD single below. New singles are always displayed on the first page.

There are two ways you can sample the songs:

1) HTML: This is the original way I had it set up, where you'll have to manually download and listen to each file. Also, if you hover over the links, you'll see the kanji title of each song.

2) Flash Player: This flash player will let you listen to each sample in REAL TIME. (^^) Occasionally you can choose between different playlists (especially if the CD is a remake/tribute to another artist's work).

Here's a quick summary of how the flash player works (image opens in a new window)

Click on the 'Lyrics' icon to access the lyrics. ALL lyrics will open in ONE popup (i.e.: all of the lyrics share the same popup). This way, you won't have a TON of popups open. Besides, you can't read two lyrics at the same time, right? (^^) But if you want to open the lyrics in more than one window, feel free to right-click the links and choose "Open in New Window".

Lastly, to make the pages load faster, the singles will be split into several pages (hence why I will alternate/color-code the links).

This is Van's fourth single, which was released nearly two years after her last single. The DVD has only one track: the PV/music video for "Tokyo Biyori".

The title track ("Tokyo Biyori") was composed by Kazuo Zaitsu, the same guy that Van covered TWICE on her "VOICE" albums (on the first album, she did one of his solo songs, "Kitte no Nai Okuri-mono". And on the second album, she covered a song by his group, Tulip: "Seishun no Kage"). Apparently, Mr. Zaitsu was really impressed and touched by Van's covers, and he created this song for her. ^_^

As for the actual song: it's cute. (^_^) "Tokyo Biyori" has a simplistic melody that's easy to remember. The same thing is true for "message.", which Van composed herself! The third song on the CD, "Hum a Tune", is a cover song (which was done by a man called "Original Love". He was a pioneer of Shibuya-kei, along with Pizzicato 5 and Flipper's Guitar). I didn't like "Hum a Tune" at first, but it does grow on you after a while.

Overall, this CD has a nice mellow feel, and I was pleasantly surprised. (^_^) It's catchy, cute, and has a light summery feel to it. The only thing I don't like are the CD cover photos (they look terrible, especially if you look at the full size versions. x__x). But that issue aside, I really enjoyed this CD. Hopefully you'll enjoy it, too.
